Richard A. Kirk is a Canadian artist, illustrator, and writer. His images are drawn from the imagination.

As a visual artist, Richard is drawn to the forms and structures found in nature. He is interested in the morphology of plants and animals, and the effects of time. His work is also influenced by an interest in literature and illustration; in his words, “Jorge Luis Borges reviewed imaginary books. Similarly, I illustrate imaginary books. I want to create images that stimulate and celebrate the imagination.”

In practical terms, he works in a number of mediums including pen and ink, watercolor, silverpoint, and oil. He also works with found materials such as distressed metal, fossils, bone and text to create assemblages.

In addition to pursuing personal areas of investigation in visual art, he also works as a freelance illustrator. Clients include Iron Crown Enterprises, HarperPrism, Coelacanth Productions, Zehrapushu Inc., Gauntlet Publications, and Sideshow Books.

Says Richard, “I have been an artist for as long as I can remember. For me it is a way of observing and interpreting life, and expressing my imagination. I have been inspired by many things, such as books, nature, film, other people, other artists.”
